TREE PLANTATION

(27-July-2013)

Tree plantation was done in the college campus by the department of Botany. Our worthy Principal, Dr (Mrs.) Madhu Prashar, planted a tree and also adopted it for care in the future. The faculty members of the department also adopted the trees individually. Students of B.Sc.II (Medical) Participated in this event. The Tree Plantation was done to take the initiative towards protection of environment.

CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
(12-August-2013)

Department of Botany celebrated International Youth Day on August 12, 2013. The aim of the Celebration was to create awareness about the problems of the youth among the students. A lecture was given by Mrs Shakti chawla, head of department of Botany. Then students of B.Sc. (Medical) expressed their views in the form of skit, poem and Speech. In the end, Seminar was concluded by Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Prashar's talk who gave a thought provoking lecture. Students learnt a lot as well as they enjoyed the celebration.

VISIT TO MOTHER TERESA HOME
(07-October-2013)

With the kind permission of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Prashar, department of Botany organised visit to Mother Teresa home for which bus was provided by the college. The staff members among the students of B.Sc. Medical wheat, flour, sugar, rice, pulses refined oil fruits dry milk to the inmates of Mother Teresa home. The students also interacted with the inmates and come to know about the problem and tried their best to redress their grievance.

VISIT TO LEPROSY HOME

(07-October-2013) 

Department of Botany in collaboration with the department of Physics organized  a visit to leprosy home to sensitize the students with problems of underprivileged persons with the permission of Dr. (Mrs.) Madhu Prashar, Principal, DSCW, Ferozepur. Teachers and students purchased biscuits, fruits, dal, rice, atta and distributed these eatables among the under privilege persons.

LIBRARY ORIENTATION PROGRAM

(09-September-2013)

Department of Botany organized Library Orientation Program for Students of B.Sc II (Medical) on September 9, 2013. Rules and regulations of the library were explained to the students by the chief librarian Mrs. Mohinder Kaur. Students also learnt to access the books and journals.

WORKSHOP ON MUSHROOM CULTIVATION

(28-November-2013)

One day workshop on Mushroom Cultivation was organized by the Department of Botany. Mrs. Shakti Chawla gave a lecture to the students on how to grow mushrooms using wheat straw and polythene bags. She also explained about the ideal conditions for growing mushrooms like that of moisture and temperature. The fruiting bodies of Mushrooms developed after about two months. The students were explained about the different parts of a mushroom and their various uses.

INTERCLASS QUIZ COMPETITION 

(06-December-2013)

 Department of Botany organized a quiz competition for the students of B.Sc.(Medical). The students  participated in this event with great enthusthiasm. Three teams were created with each team comprising of three students. The Students were asked questions regarding Ecology, Plant Physiology, Angiosperms, Algae, Cytology etc. At the end of the event, prizes were distributed to the participants of winning team.

EXCURSION TRIP TO HARIKE PATTAN

(03-February-2014)

 A plant excursion trip was organized for the students of B.Sc II (Medical) to Harike Pattan for plant samples collection. A total of 40 students visited the site and collected the habitat, taxonomic information and herbarium samples.

VISIT TO TISSUE CULTURE LAB, GNDU, AMRITSAR

(03-February-2014)

Department of Botany organized an educational trip for the students of B.Sc. II (Medical) on Feb.3, 2014. Students visited Tissue culture laboratory at GNDU, Amritsar. The Resource person present there explained the technique of tissue culture and its advantages. Students asked various questions which were satisfactorily answered by the expert.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY 

(28- February-2014)

 Department of Botany celebrated National Science Day on 28 February, 2014 to commemorate the discovery of Raman effect by eminent physicist professor CV Raman. On this day, students made beautiful Rangoli depicting the role of Science and Technology. A quiz competition was organised.  Winners of various competitions were honoured at the end of celebration. Principal Dr. Madhu Prashar also encouraged the students to participate in such activities for better exposure.
