Since the inception of the department in the
year 1960, it has made tremendous stride in imparting qualitative teaching and
initiating eminence research in Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur. The
department owes uniqueness due to its focus on fundamental research and
teaching in plants and our study of populations, communities and ecosystem of
which they are key component. Our faculty conducts basic and applied research
on various specialized issues. At present, the department has galaxy of seven well qualified and experienced faculty members. The department of botany
is conferred with the status of Star Science department of the college by UGC
for the year 2013-14.
The departments boast labs that have well equipped with latest instruments. Apart from the state-of-the-art methods involved in teaching, the department also maintains an enormous collection of museum and Herbarium specimens. The department also regularly organises field trips, study tours, botanical excursions that help in holistic development of students. The department also regularly organises workshops, seminars with enthusiastic participation of faculties of national and international repute. These activities keep students instrumental not only in current developments and frontiers of research in the subject discipline but also in developing organisational skills.
