VISIT TO BLIND HOME
A visit to blind home, Ferozepur was organised on 5th August 2017 on the occasion of Rakhi. Students were accompanied by their teachers. Students tied Rakhi to the inmates and offered them sweets; in return the inmates thanked the students. They also sang beautiful songs and share their joys and sorrows with the students. A number of daily need goods like wheat flour rice, pulses, detergents etc. were also donated by the students.
TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION

Teachers day was celebrated on September 5th, 2017 in the department of Botany. On this occasion students presented poems, songs in praise of their teachers they also thanked their teachers for the invaluable and ever available help and guidance. A cake was also cut on the occasion. Students also planned number of activities for teachers. This was a nice get together in an informal way. In the end, all the faculty members thanked students for throwing a nice party on the occasion and bless them for their bright future.
QUIZ COMPETITION

Quiz competition was organized for students of M.Sc.I & II (Botany) on September 11, 2017. There were two teams A&B. Team B comprising
students of M.Sc. II declared as winner team. Winners were given away prizes to
encourage them.
6 DAYS BOTANICAL EXCURSION TO DALHOUSIE

Botanical Excursions are an integral part of Botany curriculum. A botanical excursion was organized to Dalhousie from September 14-19, 2017. Students of M.Sc.I & II (Botany) enjoyed it along with their teachers. They visited various localities like Banikhet, Khajjiar, Punjpulla etc. for plant collection.
CELEBRATION OF BHAGWAN DEV ATMA'S BIRTHDAY

Bhagwan Dev Atma, founder of the
Dev Samaj college for women give various teaching and worked a lot for
upliftment of women education in the society. DSCW, Ferozepur celebrated his
birthday in the second week of November, 2017. To commemorate his birthday,
department of Botany in collaboration with the department of mathematics
organised various activities as a tribute to Bhagwan Dev Atma. On this
occasion, students recited beautiful poems, bhajans and songs. Students also
threw a light on the teachings of Bhagwan Dev Atma and life of some of his
disciples. A quiz competition on Environment awareness was also organised.
Professor S. S. Sandhu, Associate Professor of Mathematics, also acquainted the
audience regarding the teachings of Dev Dharma.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a special day was organised by the department of Botany at government school Nurpur Sethan, district Firozpur. Lecture was delivered by Dr. Harpreet Kaur. Students also took an oath to keep their surroundings clean and green. The lecture was organised in collaboration with NSS unit of college on 21st December, 2017.
Workshop on Mushroom Cultivation

A workshop on Mushroom cultivation was organised by Department of Botany. First of all, wheat straw was moistened on pucca floor to make it soft for the penetration of fungal hyphae. Extra water was drained from wheat straw and moist wheat straw was filled in Polythene bags tightly in the form of layers alternating with the layers of spawn. To avoid wastage spawn is spread on the periphery in its layers. Polythene bags are tied tightly with rubber bands. Holes are made at random in the polythene bags for aeration. Lower two corners of the polythene are cut for draining extra water. The bags are kept at warm dark place because these conditions are favourable for the growth of the fungus. The fungal hyphae penetrate cellulose of wheat straw which gives Cottony appearance in about 15 days. Then polythene bag was cut and removed. Wheat straw packet was watered regularly for 13 to 20 days till the appearance of first crop of mushrooms. They are harvested and after few days the next crop appears. In this way with little effort and cheap raw material highly valuable, protein rich mushrooms were cultivated.
Ozzy fest

Ozzy fest was organised on state level to celebrate Ozone day in the science block of Dev Samaj College for women, Ferozepur, by the department of chemistry on 18th September 2017. B.Sc. medical students under the guidance of teachers of Botany department participated in the event with full enthusiasm. They participated in various activities like Rangoli competition, poster making, quiz competition etc. Beautiful rangoli prepared by the students showing environmental issues and their remedies.
Visit to leprosy home

A visit to leprosy home was organised by department of Botany in collaboration with department of Physics and Chemistry, DSCW. Students of B.Sc.II and M.Sc. were accompanied by their teachers. Students interacted with the inmates and listens to their lives at leprosy home. Various goods of daily needs like wheat flour, sugar, cooking oil, detergent powder etc. also donated for the use of inmates. Representatives of Leprosy home inmates thanked team for their initiative.
Seminar on Soil Pollution

A seminar on soil pollution was organised by Department of Botany to make students aware of the causes, effects and control measures to the soil pollution on November 2nd, 2017. Students of M. Sc. II Harpreet Kaur and Satwinder Kaur beautifully presented their seminar with the help of PowerPoint presentations. Various queries regarding the soil pollution, their causes effects and control measures were discussed. After the seminar participants answer the questions with the confidence. In the end, students also pledged to keep their campus and surrounding clean and green by minimizing the pollution.
Seminar on Water pollution

A seminar on water pollution, its causes effects and control measures was organised in the seminar hall of the science block DCSW, Ferozepur on 7th November, 2017. Students of Bsc III (Medical)-Suman Preet, Sakshi and Shaina give their presentations in a beautiful way. They presented seminar with the help of PowerPoint presentation. In the end, audience asked various questions which were confidently answered by the participants. Various issues regarding the water pollution, availability of safe drinking water etc. were also discussed. In the end Dr. Manish Kumar, HOD, Botany, thanked participants, audience and faculty members from the department as well as sister departments.
Seminar on Air Pollution

Department of Botany organised a seminar on air pollution on November 8th, 2017 in the seminar hall of DSCW, Ferozepur city. Students of M.Sc. I- Sheenam, Rohita and Raspinder presented seminar. They nicely presented causes, effects and control measures of air pollution. Effect of polluted Air on plant, animal and human life was beautifully depicted with the help of pictures. In the end, audience asked various questions which were confidently answered by the participants. Seminar was followed by a discussion on the problem of burning of paddy husk. The health problems including burning of eyes, breathing problems etc. were also discussed. Number of suggestions were given to reduce air pollution and to ensure fresh, clean air for breathing.
Workshop on Sustainable Agriculture

Department of Botany organised a workshop on Sustainable agriculture in collaboration with NSS unit of the college on 25th to 27th December, 2017. Dr. Jatinder Pal Singh delivered a lecture on Sustainable Agriculture. Those who attended the workshop were made aware of various aspects of agriculture, which will help to boost economy of farmer as well as our eco-friendly approach. Dr. Geetanjali, Assistant professor and Ms. Hardeep Kaur, Assistant professor answered various queries.
National Science Day

Department of Botany celebrated National Science Day on 28 February, 2018 to commemorate the discovery of Raman effect by eminent physicist professor CV Raman. On this day, students of graduate and postgraduate classes made beautiful Rangoli depicting the role of Science and Technology. The theme for science day was “Science and Technology for sustainable development”. A quiz competition was organised. Winners of various competitions were honoured at the end of celebration. Principal Dr.Madhu Prashar also encouraged the students to participate in such activities for better exposure.
Seminar on Ayurveda and health

PG department of Botany organised one day National seminar on Ayurveda and health. There were informative lectures by the expert Dr. Porinder Singla, Dr. (Mrs.) Rajni Singla and Dr. Bhupinder Singh. Seminar was attended by the faculty members as well as students of graduate and postgraduate classes. Faculty members from other departments also graced the occasion with their presence. Dr. Porinder Singla spoke about importance of Ayurveda. Dr. Rajni Singla told the audience about various skin diseases and their ayurvedic remedies. Dr. Bhupinder Singh Explained medicinal use of Ayurveda. Experts answered various queries of the audience. In the end, Dr.(Mrs.) Madhu Prashar, thanked the Resource persons. She also appreciated the efforts of Botany Department.
EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO FRI, DEHRADUN

Department of Botany organized an Educational trip to FRI, Dehradun on March 28,2018. About 45 students of M.Sc. (Botany) and B.Sc.II (Medical) visited Forest Research Institute along with their teachers. Students visited various labs in the institute and interacted with the Scientists working over there.
